Rep. Gary Day was elected on Nov. 4 to represent the people of the 187th Legislative District, which consists of portions of Lehigh and Berks counties. The district includes the Lehigh County townships of North Whitehall, Upper Macungie (districts 01, 02, 03 and 05) Heidelberg, Lynn, Lowhill and Weisenberg. In Berks County, it includes the townships of Longswamp, Maxatawny and Richmond as well as the boroughs of Kutztown, Lyons and Topton.
Before becoming a member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, Day was the director of marketing and human resources for Service Electric Cablevision, a local cable television and telecommunications company. Prior to that, Representative Day was The Executive Assistant to the Mayor in Pennsylvania's third largest city, Allentown. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and a minor in Business.
Actively involved in his district, Day is a lifetime member of the Goodwill Fire Company No. 1, Germansville; a member of the Heidelberg Game Protective Association; a softball, football and baseball youth sports coach. He is a member of the National Rifle Association, the Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club, and Greenleaf Lodge No. 561.
Day’s past experience will benefit the people of our district as well. He was member of the YMCA board of directors; founding member of the Lehigh Valley Sportsfest; executive director of the Allentown Advancement Team; and an executive committee member of the Allentown Economic Development Corporation
Day and his wife Susan have three children, Erynn, Samuel and Claudia and are members of the Saint Joseph the Worker Church.
His priorities are to work to protect the quality of life in his district, including fighting to retain open space and increasing the safety in our suburban and rural neighborhoods. He will use his experience to ensure that government is reflective of the district’s conservative principles and ensure equal representation in Harrisburg.
