Recycling Development Efforts Gain Ground in Lehigh and Berks, Legislators Announce
Berks County and Upper Macungie Township are set to receive a Recycling Development and Implementation Grant for yard waste recycling, drop-off facility and school recycling programs. The grants are awarded by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), according to Reps. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) and Doug Reichley (R-Berks/ Lehigh).
Priorities for this round of funding were incentive-based programs, alternative-fuel vehicles, multi-government projects and new fiber/collection processing programs. The following grants will impact the 187th and 134th Legislative Districts:
Upper Macungie will receive $39,848 for its yard waste recycling program.
The Berks County Solid Waste Authority will receive a grant of $297,507 for a drop-off recycling and school recycling program.
In this round of funding, DEP announced 113 grants totaling $20 million statewide from the Recycling Development and Implementation Grant Program. For additional information on recycling, municipal waste planning and waste reduction, visit the DEP Web site at www.dep.state.pa.us.
