Day Announces $506,500 in DCNR Grants for Three Projects
Rep. Gary Day (R-Berks/Lehigh) congratulated Berks County on $506,500 in grants to purchase conservation easements, evaluate renewable energy sources at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and rehabilitate a Maxatawny Township park in the 187th Legislative District.
Funding was made possible through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program (CCPP) under the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).
“These projects will continue to make our area a great place to live and a destination to visit,” said Day. “Preserving open space and making upgrades to local parks and attractions will benefit everyone.”
Projects receiving funding in the 187th Legislative District are as follows:
Berks County Conservancy received $455,500 for acquisition of conservation easements on three properties totaling 282 acres in District Township to preserve open space.
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association received $15,000 for a feasibility study of the Visitor Center Renovation and Expansion Project and to evaluate renewable energy sources and the best green technology solutions, including site analysis and testing.
Maxatawny Township received $36,000 for the Willaim DeLong Memorial Park rehabilitation and further development to include construction of a parking area, pavilion, pedestrian walkways, installation of play equipment with safety surfacing, lighting upgrades, Americans with Disabilities Act access, landscaping, signs and site improvements.
DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation distributes the funds in an effort to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts, and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway projects.
CCPP is administered by DCNR and is comprised of the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93), the Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener 1), the Growing Greener Bond Fund (Growing Greener 2) and several federal funding sources.
