Longswamp Township Receives Sewage Grant, Says Day
12/9/2009
Longswamp Township in Berks County has received a Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant of $13,018, according to Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks).

The grant will be used to reimburse 42.5 percent of the eligible expenses for performing sewage enforcement provisions under the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act. The grant comes from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

“State grants for environmental projects such as septic system inspections are important to ensure water quality standards are maintained,” said Day.

The Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act requires local agencies to administer a permitting program for the installation of septic systems. The program establishes uniform standards to protect public health and prevent environmental problems due to substandard or malfunctioning septic systems.
